Feh. Makes too much sense.Guys like him...Red Bryant...we'll have options.
Much better to hang your hat on players that they "know" like Crawford and Bass.

Broaddus said he doesn't think they would take Bryant. I think it would be silly not to if the time and pick is right.Guys like him...Red Bryant...we'll have options.
We are far more likely to take any cap money we carve out and throw it at Hatcher unfortunately.Broaddus said he doesn't think they would take Bryant. I think it would be silly not to if the time and pick is right.
I meant time and money not pick. But, you're probably right. Which, again, is silly. We are far more likely to take any cap money we carve out and throw it at Hatcher unfortunately.
His ideal position. If he was to be a straight up starter I think strong side DE is his best spot.
This is exactly what I want to see out of Crawford this upcoming season. Selvie stays as the starter at LE and then 3 new starters along the rest of the D-line.Ideally I'd like to use Crawford as a 5th DL, the first guy off the bench if you will, a guy who can play strongside DE and DT in passing situations. If he was to be a straight up starter I think strong side DE is his best spot.
I'm not absolving them of anything, other than to say, Spears wasn't a bust. He was a solid player here despite his lack of sack numbers as a 3-4 end. If that was the worst we ever did, we'd be pretty well off.Weak reasoning. He started because he was drafted in the 1st round. Our esteemed GM then deemed the position set. No need to further address it.
Spears was the epitome of a JAG. A guy that could easily have been replaced, but wasn't because of our lazy F.O. Or are we absolving them in this instance because it helps this certain agenda? Sure looks like it.
He was a first round run stopper that rarely made an impactful play. A JAG. What he provided could have been given by a mid to late rounder.I'm not absolving them of anything, other than to say, Spears wasn't a bust. Could have been a later round pick, but wasn't. It was a misevaluation of what we originally thought he could do, but I wouldn't call him a bust. He was a quality run stopper here in a scheme where he was largely asked to eat blocks not rush the passer (not that he would have been ultra successful had he been asked but his numbers would have been a little better). He was a first round run stopper that rarely made an impactful play. He wasn't a bust on the level of a Bobby Carpenter, but a bust just the same because of his pedigree and draft position.
Love how this is your evaluation of Spears but Selvie, well he is pure garbage.Could have been a later round pick, but wasn't. It was a misevaluation of what we originally thought he could do, but I wouldn't call him a bust. When you look at players drafted around him who never played quality meaningful downs, he's not an awful selection. I would have no problem with a player of his caliber (during his prime, obviously his career is about over now), or Chris Canty, starting at one of the end spots on a Super Bowl 3-4 Defense.
This is the 20th overall pick. If you get a second contract out of it, it's not a bad pick. Not great, but certainly not horrible. If you look at picks 16-23 in that draft, he was probably the best one. All the way until Aaron Rodgers at 24. Then you get better players like Spencer, Mankins, Roddy White, and Castillo at the back end of the round.
So, what he actually DID provide as the 20th overall pick could have been provided by a player picked 3 rounds later. JAG. 1st round bust.Could have been a later round pick, but wasn't. It was a misevaluation of what we originally thought he could do, but I wouldn't call him a bust. The players taken around him have no bearing whatsoever on what kind of player he was. Do you give credit to Terence Newman for guys like Charles Rogers, DeWayne Robertson, and Jonathan Sullivan being drafted around him? No? Ok.When you look at players drafted around him who never played quality meaningful downs, he's not an awful selection. Oh, so we're back to Jerry again. Giving him that 2nd contract. Not to mention, missing out on the better players taken behind him. Thanks, Percells. Did Spears deserve another contract on the production provided? Especially considering he was the 20th overall selection of the first round? Not even close. You know it as well as everyone else knows it. Jerry hates to admit when he's wrong. Spears got that contract because of where he was drafted, and because we were too stupid to admit it and bring in anybody else to take the job. JAG. 1st round bust. This is the 20th overall pick. If you get a second contract out of it, it's not a bad pick. Not great, but certainly not horrible. If you look at picks 16-23 in that draft, he was probably the best one. I never said Selvie was garbage, I said he's a minus starter. Which he is, in a 4-3 defense. He's not a run stuffer.Love how this is your evaluation of Spears but Selvie, well he is pure garbage.
Sometimes I wonder if you even believe the things you type.
Sorry, the mere presence of a second contract is a poor gauge, especially in Dallas where the coach/owner/gm will do anything to avoid "bust" labels. Spears' second contract was a journeyman pay grade. He was a JAG by any measure. Compare Spears and Canty's "second contracts" and you have your answer about how good Spears was. This is the 20th overall pick. If you get a second contract out of it, it's not a bad pick. Not great, but certainly not horrible. If you look at picks 16-23 in that draft, he was probably the best one. All the way until Aaron Rodgers at 24.
