I just installed two 21” subwoofers in my home theater room. Its fucking incredible. It took 3 guys to get them upstairs.
4300 watts each, 12 hz extension and weigh 170 pound each.

My son and I were able to get the Raspberry Pi back in business.

We ordered a couple wireless NES controllers, but they kinda suck.

Still have to figure out how to get audio working, but it's great to play Super Mario 3 again. :towel

Like that has to pretty much shake your entire house.

It will move shit off the bar at the back of the room. But it’s the kind of bass you feel, and movies are incredible…it really gave a different feel to the movies I’ve watched previously.
I had a 16” SVS subwoofer for about 2 years and I thought it was good. I had no idea how moving to these changed everything.

They make some really good subwoofers, and they won’t break the bank if you want a custom (in other words, no name brand) subwoofer.
Power Sound Audio.

Can you tell me about DTV stream? I noticed that my mom is paying way too much for two TVs on the old DTV. I thought about switching her to their streaming, for some reason thought they had discontinued DTV stream. Does it look and act kind of like the satellite version? Not sure she'd like anything too radically different.

It's got more of a YTTV feel but the added bonus is their channels are numbered like traditional DirecTV. For example 206 is ESPN, 212 is NFLN, and so on.

It could be due to me being new to the setup and using the app through a Roku device instead of DirecTV's provided streaming device, but getting around the interface is still a bit awkward for me. But like I said, I only just signed up for the service around 8 PM last night so I anticipate over time it'll become more natural for me.

If you're considering this for your parents I'd say this would probably be cheaper because there isn't a limit on the number of people who can stream when you're streaming at home. This is another improvement over YTTV which has a 3 device limit. So they can watch in all their bedrooms or any other room in the house without any extra charges.

The drawback particularly for older adults is if you want a remote with a number pad that allows you to just punch in the numbers to jump to your channel, you have to rent DTV's gemini device that's like $15 per month. Without that device and the DTV provided remote you have to scroll through the channel guide, channel-by-channel, to get to the program you're trying to watch. The guide scrolls pretty quickly so it's not too bad, but obviously not as good as just punching in the channels numbers.

I'm actually about to hop onto ebay and look for gemini device for myself. People are selling them on there for $125 and up. It's a steep initial investment but if you know you want remote with buttons it's a better deal in the long run than giving DirecTV $15/month to rent theirs for several years.

Thanks, man. Very helpful. Having the channel numbers be the same would be a big bonus for her.

The part about the channel numbers is one thing I've thought about anyway. It sounds so simple, but all these modern streaming apps where you're supposed to scroll though a bunch of channels is such a pain. I'm actually surprised Roku or others don't come up with a remote with a keypad on it so you can just punch in whatever you want. It would be so easy to do, too.

Yeah I was looking for third party alternatives to avoid having to pay that ridiculous $15 per month equipment fee for a device that essentially does the same thing as a $40 Roku device. Apparently there are no universal remotes on the market that are compatible with DTV's Streams channel numbers system. That's how I landed on possibly buying one from an eBay seller.

@Chocolate Lab I did some research and found out that the below DirecTV box and remote are compatible with the DirecTV Stream service.

These are DirecTV's Osprey boxes and people are selling them on eBay for $40-$65 (pre-owned - new). They are a much cheaper alternative to the $125+ Gemini boxes that I mentioned yesterday.

I ordered one. I'll provide an update on its functionality later in the week.

@Chocolate Lab I got the DirecTV Osprey streaming device and remote in the mail today and it's working perfectly with my DirecTV stream account.

I can use a number pad again to jump from channel to channel. :towel

Setup was pretty routine. Like with any other streaming device I just had to connect it to my wifi and let it run through an update that only took a couple of minutes.

For those of you that have cut the cable and only use apps, how do you watch just regular ESPN? I have ESPN+ but you can't get the regular ESPN channel there, which is dumb. Do you have to pay to get just the one ESPN channel?

How much is your subscription?
I think its 130. There are probably some cheaper ones. I think Sling was one but you would need to check if they offer ESPN.

Cheapest way to watch ESPN is to get the overpriced app at 30 per month.

Sling Orange with ESPN is 46 per, but you get other channels.
