Last week, Moneyball ended up on my screen, and I watched it again. He was even good portraying Art Howe.

And he was in one of my fav movies...Almost Famous.

Fucking addicts, man. They just don't give a fuck.
Unless you've been there, don't be so quick to judge. Drug addiction is a bitch to kick.

In point of fact though, he's right. Opiate addiction rewires your brain to fix your priorities on your addiction. Very few people are ever able to break loose from that, even after the drug has been out of their system.

No one said getting addicted isn't stupid, but getting away from them isn't exactly easy and people shouldn't judge unless they know what it's like.

I hear what you are saying and I know from personal observation that an addict no longer has a rational mind. I have friends who have lost their children to drug addiction. My point however, is that anyone who thinks they can dabble with it is running a huge risk with their life.

Couldn't agree with you more.

I have seen enough bad things to make the determination that I would never ever try heroin.

Heroin is the one drug I never did. Thank god. I might not have gotten back if I had.

This kind of shit usually follows the talented actors. And meanwhile Vin Diesel is completely drug free and healthy.

I'm not a drug addict, but I have quit smoking and cut back drinking alcohol from ridiculous levels to where Marshall tailgates are my only certain drinking dates.

And I have four extra kids thanks to a certain cunt that prefers substance abuse over the company of her own children, so I have an idea how hard it is to quit.

But addicts still get little sympathy from me.

I don't know what it's like to be addicted to heroin, but I do know what it's like to not be addicted to heroin and use that lucidity to make the wise decision to not start.

In other words, every heroin addict made a decision to start doing heroin while they were sober and should have known better.

In much the same way, a person who drives drunk put himself in position to drive home drunk while he was sober and should have known better.

I'm not vilifying addicts but I am saying that they are 100% responsible even when they are no longer in control of their actions. And ultimately they were stupid to put themselves in that position in the first place.

I agree with the basic premise of your post, but not every heroin user makes a conscious decision while sober to just start. Lots of people get addicted to pain killers have a legit injury that causing them to need it and eventually they keep going up to heavier drugs to get the relief they need. I've known one or two heroin users that ended up that way.

Hell yeah. When I was young I tried several kinds of drugs but always avoided needle drugs like heroin or morphine. Couldn't ignore the countless stories of junkie despair/death I'd been exposed to. During that brief time period when Seattle was at the forefront of the music scene it seemed like heroin was the "cool" drug. Lulz. It destroys people. Horrible idea to get involved in something like that and I'm glad I at least had the sense to draw the line somewhere.

You could have just said you agreed with me and moved on.

I have never touched heroin, thank little jesus, but I have hit meth pretty hard at one point in my life. While not nearly as bad, it's still nasty from a recovery standpoint. It ain't easy. I can't even begin to imagine what it's like for heroin users. Stupid to do it... but harder to get off it.

Amazing how while this is happening people are trying to fight mythical "Cannabis Addiction" and "Cannabis Overdose". I am a heavy drinker who has never tried weed. Hell, when I'm older weed might save my life when I have to cut down my drinking more than I already have.

True, I realized as I was saying it that I was ignoring those that start taking heroin under other circumstances, but I figured someone else would point it out.
