Yes, because nothing screams smaller federal government like sending National Guard troops into Democrat-run cities, right?
No one said he's perfect, just that he's the best option right now.

I'd certainly take him over any President we've had in a long time.

As would any Reagan conservative who listed all his positive conservative accomplishments and compared them to the past 25 years.

1) Reagan would have never approved of Trump's immigration bullshit.

2) Reagan would have never brought in some company CEO no matter how "successful" he claimed to be and gave him free reign to go out and slash government programs indiscriminately, especially when it would have led to many of those people having to be brought back.

What's bullshit about it?
First of all, waiting outside courtrooms for these people to show up for their hearing because they are going through the process, arresting them and terminating the proceeding is bullshit.

Second, they are just rounding up people who LOOK Hispanic, to include American citizens who are being detained, sometimes for days, trying to prove that they belong here is fucking bullshit.

Do yourself a favor and look up what Reagan said about immigration, and compare that with what Trump is doing and tell me that they align.

I don't disagree with that video that Smitty posted. I do disagree with the flailing actions Trump took to attempt to correct those liberal policies.

One of Reagan's few mistakes was on immigration, and I'm pretty sure he admitted that in his last years.

Also, you're taking the few exceptions and making it look like that's happening all the time. Just as msnbc would do. Total coincidence I'm sure.

He has said that his mistake was in not implementing a better immigration policy, not that he didn't want immigrants here.

Also, I don't watch MSNBC.

I'm sure Fox News and OAN aren't reporting the massive fuckups by ICE right now, that's why you're not hearing about them more. And if I remember correctly, you denied that they were happening at all just a few days ago.

Any time you do anything on a massive scale there are going to be fuckups. You're acting like they're the exception and not the rule.

I don't think anybody has claimed that Reagan would agree with Trump on every issue. Only that he would on a lot of it. No President would ever agree on everything with anybody before or after them.

Just curious.... Out of all the Presidents to follow him, who do people think that Reagan would have agreed with more?

George Bush Sr.
Bill Clinton
George Bush Jr.
Barack Obama
Donald Trump
Joe Biden

For extra credit, list them in order most to least. :art

You can't have open borders and the people who came here illegally need to go, full stop.

2) Reagan would have never brought in some company CEO no matter how "successful" he claimed to be and gave him free reign to go out and slash government programs indiscriminately, especially when it would have led to many of those people having to be brought back.
Yeah, I agree Reagan never would have hired a CEO like Musk and given him a platform with a chainsaw. Again and again you get fixated on the optics. Reagan wouldn't have done that. It's not necessarily a bad idea to hire someone with a history of successful cost cutting and bring them in to consult, though.

Reagan would have approved of slashing spending. He would have approved of cutting USAID, which isn't about the percentage of the federal budget it reduces, but that money was specifically being spent on propaganda and reinforcement of leftist journalism and points of view. It had to go and it did.

Now that you've yet again aired your grievances, we are all still waiting for a fair and balanced view that acknowledges all the good that Trump has done.

Until that enters your analysis, you can't be taken seriously.

You are buying into false narratives that don't really exist. Yes, some people have been scooped up wrongfully. Many scores more times that are being rightfully sent back to where they belong.

They are not just out there scooping up Hispanic looking people en masse.

And there's nothing wrong for waiting outside courtrooms to arrest illegals. You go get them where you know they are. The only "bullshit," is the people saying that's wrong, cause it's not.

I agree, no open borders. But there are people here who are TRYING TO FOLLOW THE LAW, and still get rounded up.

USAID was started by Nixon, why didn't Reagan get rid of it then? And nothing is wrong with cutting spending. It's the way it was done, nevermind the ridiculous chainsaw stunt, in that institutions were just destroyed because they didn't meet with a businessman's agenda.

Maybe one day you'll acknowledge that there is a way to run a business and a way to run a government. There is ample proof that Trump knows how to run neither one, and until you can admit that, your opinion means zero to anyone not wearing that fucking stupid red hat.

Like I give a fuck whether you take me seriously.

These two statements contradict each other, so I don't see the point you are trying to make.

Yes, they are, as evidenced by you admitting that some people have been "scooped up wrongfully".

Trump has been claiming to his cult that they aren't showing up to their hearings. I'm sure that some weren't. But when you camp your agents outside the courthouse and these people know what is going to happen to them if they abide by the process anyway, it's going to deter them from following said process.[/QUOTE]

Very rarely, so rarely as to not be worth getting upset about.

USAID was started by Nixon, why didn't Reagan get rid of it then?
It wasn't the ridiculous monster it has since become at that point, duh.

And nothing is wrong with cutting spending. It's the way it was done, nevermind the ridiculous chainsaw stunt, in that institutions were just destroyed because they didn't meet with a businessman's agenda.
There haven't been any institutions that have been destroyed that we will miss. Quite the opposite. Only liberals will miss them.

These two statements contradict each other, so I don't see the point you are trying to make.
I'll say it slower?

(1) They are not out there scooping up Hispanic looking people en masse, it is neither the intent nor the outcome.

(2) Yes it HAS happened that a FEW have been picked up wrongfully, but, see #1, they are not trying to get Hispanic citizens who belong here and the occurrence with which it happens is so small that it's akin to saying you shouldn't arrest criminals because occasionally an innocent person gets arrested.

That's what the justice system is for, to sort it out.

Yes, they are, as evidenced by you admitting that some people have been "scooped up wrongfully".
NOT EN MASSE.

Anecdotally, yes. There's a massive difference.

You don't change an entirely policy because of a small number of mistakes.

Again, it's like telling the police not to arrest criminals because sometimes they arrest an innocent person. That's the cost of society, occasionally an innocent person has to bear the brunt of legal representation. Hell, sometimes innocent people are even convicted!

Trump has been claiming to his cult that they aren't showing up to their hearings. I'm sure that some weren't. But when you camp your agents outside the courthouse and these people know what is going to happen to them if they abide by the process anyway, it's going to deter them from following said process.
Who cares?

I'm not interested in the feelings of people who are here illegally.

This is just spitefulness.

Trump has done so much more to advance a conservative agenda than Biden and Obama.

I mean, he's done more than Bush 2 and Clinton too, but you could at least have some arguable points with them, I dunno, Bush 2 was a social conservative, Clinton ended up compromising on welfare reform and some other small government institutions once he lost Congress, etc. I mean, if you really want to run down the pluses and minuses George Bush starting 2 wars and appointing John Roberts (savior of Obamacare and unlimited government power via his Sebelius decision) is pretty hard to defend against Trump though, and Clinton was only forced into behaving because he had no power.

Stupid and probably unconstitutional.

Waste of his energy.

It's a shame Irv has to derail this thread over and over again with easily refutable nonsense because if he would take a chill pill and just admit that he doesn't personally care for him but that he's done a lot of good, we could move on to an actual conversation that so far we should be a little disappointed with the 2nd Trump administration.

I'd like another signature piece of legislation but good luck.
