That's part of the problem. It's also the electronics.
I mean electronics are a problem too. Like my wife got to the point that the kids had tablets for a 5 minute car ride to school. And I was like, this is crazy. Long car ride, sure I get it. No different then I had a Gameboy as a kid. But there is no reason kids need a tablet for every car ride. I think there is certainly something to be said for a kid being able to entertain themselves or socialize as opposed to watching videos.

Of course I feel like when I was a child the same thing was said about television. It's all about moderation.

I think the over attention to the electronics is a separate issue.

The behavior that kid was demonstrating is a parenting issue. In this instance it was about electronics, but it could have been about a bike or shoes or whatever else.
Correct. Kids learn at a very young age that if mom and dad will fold at a tantrum, they’ll use that shit any time they hear the word no. And the behavior will only escalate at any sign of resistance.

It is amazing that with a normal family unit, both partners have to work, especially if they have kids and now I would say it would take bare minimum of a $300K income combined somehow to allow for them to not rely on credit.
Depends where you live, but that sounds a little high, don't you think?

Not really if you factor in the things that comprise our consumer-based and image-driven lifestyle that stresses money and material things.

We are conditioned to strive to live beyond our means. And even then want more. That is what it means to be American.
