I wanted to make him a thread because he is interesting to me. The fumbles are a worry and our RB coach needs to hammer that. But he is a fun prospect at RB.

I say think Lions and Gibbs with how I would use him. Similar size/speed and elusiveness. Neither a ton of carries in college. Gibbs best season was like 900 yards rushing with Alabama.

He isn't just a weapon for the running game but he should be a weapon for the passing game as well. RB is probably the position with the best opportunity on the team to have an impact as a rookie. Booker will step in and start day one. Ez will rotate in at DE. If Revel is healthy he steps in on defense. But with our lack of weapons on offense, Blue has a chance to have a significant impact on offense. And RB may be the easiest position to translate to the NFL.

Of course every explosive scatback is being compared to Gibbs these days because he's the flavor of the month, but Blue's receiving ability really looks potentially special and like it could mimic what Gibbs has done.

He had two downfield TD catches on wheel routes against Ohio St. in the playoffs and about a 25-yarder against Georgia on an option route that looked very similar to what Georgia does with Gibbs. These aren't just screens and housing them with his speed, but actually running routes downfield against LB's/DB's.

6 receiving TD's on the year, which had to be near the most in the country for RB's and was 4th on an elite college team, with a bunch of explosives.

He reminds me of Pollard when we drafted him, very light college usage, not going to be a bellcow until maybe year 3-4 (if ever) but should bring an explosive element right away.

If he can limit putting the ball on the ground I think he'll have an impact right away, the main thing we'll have to figure out is if we have anybody who we can count on to grind out 15-20 carries a game when needed.

Yeah I liked Martinez for that role. But I think Mafah will get a legit shot at it. And Jevonte can do it, but he may only average 3.8 ypc while doing it.

And unlike Pollard early in his career, Blue won't have a 25 a carry game workhorse sort of eating uo all the snaps. You can probably give Blue 10-15 a game.

I think between Williams, Sanders and Mafah they should be able to at least cobble together Dowdle-like production, it's just not a guarantee.

One thing's for sure, our RB room going into next season is way better than it was going into 2024.

Not ideal by any stretch, but it's workable if the OL is what we expect.

I just read Brugler's write up on Blue and he did indeed lead the country in receiving TD's for a RB.

Texas had a ridiculous amount of depth at the position but if he had went back for his senior year I wouldn't be surprised if this guy was a 2nd rounder in 2026. Heck, in a normal RB class he probably would've went in the 2nd or 3rd after how he played this season.

Grumpy scouts:

12. JAYDON BLUE, Texas (5-9, 196, 4.37, 4): Third-year junior with merely five starts in 38 games. “He’s a second- or third-round pick if he can pass pro,” said one scout. “Not a real thumper. Doesn’t have a ton of *** behind him. But he’s a major asset as a receiver because he’s really fast and really athletic. He knows how to run routes and catch a ball and is good run after the catch. He’s a home-run guy with the outside zone. He’s elusive in space to a wow level. He’s very sudden.” Caught two touchdown passes against Ohio State in the playoffs. Finished with 214 carries for 1,161 (5.4) and 11 TDs to go with 56 receptions for 503 and seven scores. Returned three kickoffs for 26.7 in 2023. “Sort of a knockoff Jahmyr Gibbs,” a second scout said. “They use him on quick passes and screens. He’s a good receiver. He’s a piece of a backfield puzzle, not like the guy. Where do you take that guy? Third or fourth round.” Passed up his senior of football in Houston.

I think he is a really good weapon near the goal line. His speed and receiving ability allows him to be dynamic near the goal line. He has that ability to run it in by finding the small hole but he also has the ability to run a route from the backfield and burn anyone trying to cover him. He also catches in traffic like a WR. As long as an OC is creative enough he could really help with our efficiency in the red zone.

Javonte is better than Dowdle.

A bit.

I can tell you who I watched a lot of with the Cowboys, that’s Rico Dowdle. He sucked.
Yeah just checking to see if you honestly think he still looks like back who was at UNC. He looked better last year than the previous year but I really don't know if he will ever get that burst back. Everything you say about the guy makes me think of how he looked as a rookie. I just don't know that he is the same guy sadly.

Yeah, I mean, part of it is I think he may still be recovering, part of it is a bad situation in Denver.

I of course would have rathered Omarion Hampton or Judkins or Henderson.

But Williams has talent unlike the washed up Elliott or UDFA Dowdle.

If he’s not healthy and never coming back, oh well. But he’s young, low mileage, and he’s a starting RB in this league if he wasn’t injured.

I applaud the effort at least.

That might be a little bit of a stretch. But if Williams and Sanders Brodney Pool themselves, you never know.

Todsy I learned there's a Fullback Watch account on Twitter and saw Brodney Pool used as a verb.

Pretty good day.
