I like BS and I'm actually kind of optimistic he'll be a pretty decent HC, but it does sound like you pull his string and he recites the Stephen playbook with all the developmental talk. It's almost like he's interviewing for the job and saying everything his cheap ass boss wants to hear.

Sounds like a guy who knows that the cheapass isn't bringing reinforcements.

This makes some measure of sense and basically tracks with our needs (DL, WR, CB), although I'm assuming when he says "getting sacks" that means DT's and DE's, not just DE's.

The only thing he left out is RB but we already know that's not happening unless Jeanty falls.

I think he meant DE to be honest. Just because he talked about positions you can create one on one matchups. Easier to do at DE than DT.

But sounds like he is going to defer to scouts as to the best player available. It's weird hearing the opposite of what most say which is you build a team from the inside out. But I think he was talking about pick 12 specifically.

I think he was talking about both the pick at 12 and his overall team building philosophy. He said at 12 they want a guy who can impact the game - sacks turnovers, TDs - which basically aligns with his general philosophy.

That was my understanding.

Yes but he also kind of talks out of both sides of his mouth. Because then he will talk about running the ball, stopping the run and being physical. Which sort of screams the other direction in terms of DT, LBer, interior O-line and RB.

If I were to interpret it, I think he believes the real elite players need to be at OT, DE, Corner and WR. Thus talking about the 12th pick specifically. And I say that because the clip started with him talking about the high pick and not wanting to pick that high again. He said the word 12 multiple times. Because that's where you usually get the really elite players. And corner is kind of debatable but I get the other positions. That's where you need the special talent. You need good players at other positions too. I mean you can't get by with turds on the interior of the O-line for example. But you can get by with less talent if they are well coached. When you have a WR or corner one on one, you just have to have talent. When you have a DE vs a OT one on one, you just need talent. Coaching helps but those are sort of the real star positions.

And obviously QB just doesn't get talked about because of Dak but that's sort of the one thing glossed over here. Because a perfectly thrown ball or a perfectly manipulated defense is unbeatable. But we aren't taking a QB at 12 so no reason to really discuss that.
