The revisionist history around here.

On Draft Day that year there was the usual cabal of people who were like "Claiborne is the highest rated defensive player in the draft, Smitty is just hating on CBs as usual."

I don't remember who, I didn't have my notebook out to write down names.

The animosity towards Claiborne did not kick in till waaaaay later. I was the animosity towards Claiborne on draft day.

I don't remember other people but I definitely hated it at the time. I do remember some debate on it but I don't remember who was defending it.

My argument was that for that trade to be worth it Claiborne needed to be an all timer and I didn't think he was.

I don't think I expected him to absolutely suck but even if he was merely "good" or very good it wouldn't have been worth it. It's just too easy to find good CBs elsewhere. If they're already picking that high and a CB is the best player available then fine. But to trade up for that? Yuck.

I don't remember anyone on this board being hyped about that trade.

I hated the pick, as I always hate CB picks early. It's the second most overrated position on the football field, behind RB.

This just in. Mahomes has equity just like Brady did.

You were thinking DeCastro all the way, even after the trade up.

When it was Claiborne, I thought the team thought he was a ballhawk which by itself would have been huge for us. But of course Mr. “4” on the Wonderlic was terrible and never could adjust to the speed of the game. But the cost… a 1st and a 2nd… wtf?

I know Booze wanted Fletcher Cox. I was hoping they’d stand Pat and draft Michael Brockers

Shit. I never wanted Claiborne. The Newman thing had really scarred me.

That's right, he was the DeCastro homer.

And DeCastro would have been a great pick.

In fairness it was clear it wasn't gonna be for DeCastro so I said Cox.
