Yep. We are dumb at the draft. Draft BPA and you have a much deeper team.Several years ago the Giants were drafting pass rushers despite having the best pass rush in the league. Before that the Steelers drafted a couple of top LB's even though they had the top LB's in the league.
When we feel we are strong at certain positions, we draft special teams. It takes a position to become a glaring need for several years to the point of wrecking a season or two before we'll even take notice. It's unreal. I'd take over half the guys on here as GM over what we have now. Heck, make that 3/4's of the guys on here.
Process.Yep. We are dumb at the draft. Draft BPA and you have a much deeper team.

Battling.
Getting Better.
Jerry's only been running this deal for 25 years. How bout showing just a little patience here?
Yep. Ignoring certain positions but then targeting others to the point of reaching or chasing players up or down the board all the while passing on BPA. At least it's almost a new year and Jerry's one year older.Yep. We are dumb at the draft. Draft BPA and you have a much deeper team.
On top of that, while Jerry wants credit for being the decision-maker, most of his decisions are just relying on input from Larry, Barry, the scouts and coaches. He's only an information gatherer, so no matter what happens it's not really his decisions, it's just him following someone else's advice. Yet this is his way of thinking he'll get credit for being a football genius if it pans out.Ironic thing is that Jerry wants the credit, but the longer Jerry acts as GM, people are giving him less credit for those 3 Super Bowls.
in 1996, Jerry got maybe 40-60% of the credit. Almost 20 years later, that percentage has dwindled with every draft, contract extension, debacle game and non playoff season.
We go BMA. Best Mohican Available.Yep. We are dumb at the draft. Draft BPA and you have a much deeper team.
That's what I read recently. The change was made over the summer. I think it was Broaddus who also said McClay wants to get away from taking the injured guys in early rounds, ala Bruce Carter. Plus, McClay is said to be the one spearheading our in season signings too. He targeted quite a few guys who ended up helping this year after all the injuries. Is this McClay guy running our drafts now and not Ciscowski? This will be his first year in charge, right? As in charge as you can be with Jerry as your boss.
This is a huge problem. If McClay is good, Jerry will listen to him, but the moment he hears a "wildcatting" alternative odds are high Jerry will "go for it". He'd much rather take dumb lazy short term risks than build a long term steady champion.Of course no matter how good McClay may be, he's just one voice. Never know when Jerry will override the personnel director/scouts and side with an assistant like he did with Kiffin last year or worse, go with what Lacewell or Switzer tells him.
What a novel concept, if you continually draft injured players from college, you are going to end up with an injury prone roster. That's what I read recently. The change was made over the summer.
