I think the likely outcome is nothing. McCarthy comes back after a week or two of teeth gnashing and the sunshine pumping begins again.
I think he's gone. And I like Mike more than most and think he's far from this team's problem. But I don't think Jerry can sell this to the fans next year.

The one thing that could save Mike is Dak. Dak really grew to love him this year.

Trust me, that's no reason to keep a coach. But Jerry loves Dak so much that it could sway him.

The team came in pretty full of themselves.

From Prescott’s HERE WE GOOO cap, Lawrence’s LAW necklace and even Parsons cosplaying Bobby Boucher.

Hey did you hear about our nine Pro Bowlers?

They were already thinking about their second home playoff game and thought an NFL team with pride would just lay down.

The coach owns part of that, but again, the culture of eating the cheese will drive the failure.
That’s why I think Belichick can keep them grounded.

Only issue is who keeps Jerry grounded? Jerry the owner eats more cheese than Jerry the mouse!

I think he's gone but it'll take about a week, Jerry will slow roll shit and probably want to wait until next weekend to announce news for the headlines.

Yep. He took a week for the Garrett release so probably will do the same.

People can poo poo on Belichick all they want but I think he can at least have the team ready to play.
Based on what? Have you been watching all his games the past 4 years? Did the Patriots show up ready to play Dallas this year?

I don't agree at all he has his teams ready to play anymore. He has completely sucked the past few years.

Maybe you can argue he needs a change in scenery, but I think all the Belichick fellating is coming from years and years ago at this point. I do not think the bet is a good one that he walks in here and is an upgrade to McCarthy and a cure all to our problems.

Mostly because our problems stem from the front office. The front office has fucked our personnel situation - we have a QB who isn't very good, no running game, and the defense has no run stoppers in the front 7 and no pass stoppers at safety (they are all run stopping safety types).

He’s a manipulator much like his mentor, Parcells or, dare I say, Jimmy.
He WAS that. A long time ago.

If Cowboys trade Dak Prescott, I’m speculating this is what it’d look like:
  • Guesstimating at least $40M cap hit for 2024. Clean hands afterwards.
  • A mix of 2nd, 3rd rounder and change. Nobody’s giving us a 1st
  • Cooper Rush and Trey Lance ($5M 2024 cap hit) as your 2024 QB tandem. We have 2024 draft #24 slot

In similar situations, the Eagles (Wentz) and Packers (Rodgers) were able to trade away and accept the cap hits because they already had succession plans to Jalen Hurts and Jordan Love. (Surprisingly, both teams made the playoffs their first season). We are in a different spot and will join the rest of the NFL in full QB search mode without cap space until 2025 (maybe) and without a high 2024 draft pick.
I couldn't care less if we don't have a succession plan in place. I'd rather go 0-17 than see Dak Prescott under center for us again.

This feels worse.

I was angrier at that performance because I was a much more emotionally invested fan back then, but this is way more disappointing.

There was a whole lot more on the line yesterday than there was in that game too.

To me, they're not even close to each other in magnitude nor in expected outcome.

We all wanted Wade to pay back then, but this time we all want sweeping changes from top to bottom.
Wade needed to pay because he had a better QB but yet his track record, invariably, ended up with collapses... and that's exactly what happened. Lest we forget we were 1-and-whatever when he got fired in 2010.

McCarthy will underachieve all the way to 12 more wins next year if everyone is healthy.

Yeah, I get it. We all want to get over the hump.

That isn't happening. Not while Prescott is here. Maybe not while the GM is here.

Cleveland gave up a windfall for Watson and then handed him a guaranteed albatross contract. After Watson was out for a year and had huge allegations over his head.
AGE
Watson: Entering his prime
Prescott: Downside of his prime

BEST SEASON
Watson: Texans with 1 other Pro Bowler
Prescott: Cowboys with 8 other Pro Bowlers

PREVAILING TRADE CLIMATE
Watson: Rams Stafford trade success
Prescott: Browns Watson trade failure

FATAL FLAW
Watson: Chokes his chicken
Prescott: Chokes in playoffs

If one had to stay, would you prefer McCarthy or Prescott?
McCarthy.

He's won a SB and been to like 3 or 4 NFCC's. The guy is a legitimately good coach and he's done a lot of good here and made significant changes in the time he's been in Dallas.

The other guy is a proven loser of a QB with a heart that pumps kool-aid who won't even luck his way into a SB appearance.

If I had to be stuck with one, it absolutely would be McCarthy.

We can also bag on the Defense, fair enough, but did McCarthy make Prescott miss a wide open Lamb on third down on the first drive? Did McCarthy make Prescott throw poor balls all night? To take sacks instead of throwing the ball away? To throw two completely inexcusable interceptions including what would end up a back-breaking pick 6? Like.... 48-32, make that 41-39 and it's a much different complexion to end that game.

The QB choked. You can argue about who was and wasn't "prepared to play," but the number one culprit who wasn't prepared was the QB.

And he's done it time after time now.

I guess McCarthy doesn't know how to get QBs ready to play? Balderdash. He's stapled to a loser here.

After today's games and we get to tomorrow the whole staff should be gone. Get rid of them. All of them. And start over...again.
