Terrell Owens: Kyle Orton gives Cowboys better shot to beat Philadelphia Eagles than Tony Romo

Former Dallas Cowboys wide receiver Terrell Owens recently joined NFL Total Access on NFL Network to talk about the team. Here are some highlights.

On if the Cowboys are better off with Kyle Orton starting:

“My thing with Romo is he’s been inconsistent late in ball games. I think going into a situation like this, you don’t have him, No. 1. But you give yourself, I feel like, a better chance. The thing is, with Tony Romo, you kind of already know what to expect. Late in the game, it’s a toss up. You just read off the mind blowing stats. If you look at what Kyle Orton has done, he’s done more with less. I think if you look at this in this situation, I think beyond certainty, obviously with them not playing against Kyle Orton, meaning the Eagles, he has an edge. I think, obviously, he’s going to have to utilize all his weapons. I think he’s going to have to do some quick passing, get (DeMarco) Murray involved. But again, you have a game changer and a playmaker in Dez Bryant.”

On if he’d rather have Orton or Romo in a win or go home game:

“You obviously want to go in with your starter. But right now, you have to deal with the cards that are dealt right now. So if I’m putting myself in this situation, I’m going to try to make myself available for Kyle Orton as much and as often as I can, and that all depends on the offensive coordinator. He has to utilize his weapons. He has to realize who his game chagers are, who his play makers are and I think for the Cowboys, it’s undoubtedly Dez Bryant.”

On if he honestly thinks Kyle Orton gives the Cowboys a better chance to beat the Eagles than Tony Romo:

“I do. If you look at the situation, if it shakes out and it’s a shootout, late in the game everybody is expecting Tony Romo to throw some interceptions. Again, not to take away anything from what he’s done this year. He’s played spectacular. But going into situations like this, everybody expects the obvious, and that’s for him to make a mistake, a huge mistake.”

On if we’ve seen the best of Tony Romo:

“I think we may have. I think if you’re looking at this situation, two back surgeries in two years, I don’t think we should expect any Peyton Manning magic from him. I think, obviously, he’s had his ups and downs as it is. But you wish the best for him, but I think we’ve seen the best of him.”

This seemed like a good idea at the time.

I think he's right only for this issue. They aren't going to win the game with him or without him. If he plays, with every incompletion and stalled drive, we will fall further behind. Eventually he will have to air it out and press and will likely end up with a pick. Rather than the story being the defense blows, the story will be Romo threw a pick and lost the game in another do or die game. This besides the fact that Romo would be playing with a pretty painful injury and likely would not be at his best.

So it's really a no win situation for Romo. That's not really what TO is saying. He's bagging on one of his QBs. How novel...

Romo's arm lost its strength after Denver. Orton's arm is fresh, so it's less likely he'll underthrow Bryant.

That is if Dez can come out of his cuts sharp with his back issues.

Romo is 10x the QB Orton is. But the gameplan that will be given to Orton will be 10x better than what Romo has had all year.

Run the ball.

One would think/hope so. We will see what Garrett does.

Yeah, but according to what we are told by Jerry...Romo has been actively involved in those gameplans.

If so, he's partially to blame and we might get a more sane offensive gameplan without him involved.

Hope springs eternal.
