I feel that when I go pick up my gun today I will be spending more money than I had planned in an impulsive fashion.
That's usually how it ends up for me :lol

Man I wanted an AR so bad. I have a couple of buds back home (Texas) who would frequent the gun range with theirs. I would just take my Glock 23.

They are currently cheap. I couldn’t believe what I could get for the dollars.

$500 last I checked. Less at a gun show.
Before the Parkland shooting I saw the cheaper models under $400 quite often

................

I also went balls out and went to a gun smith and had them replace my handguard (the round tube thing covering the barrel) with a free floating handguard instead of a drop-in handguard like the one that comes with your rifle. See the pics I posted earlier to see the difference between yours and mine. Also would require that you have the guy change the gas block probably. For parts purchase and installation you are probably looking at about $150-$200 for the handguard, low profile gas block, and installation. But totally worth it to be pimpin', IMO.

Walmart seems to have the best ammo deals at retail. Always buy brass ammo, not steel ammo. Steel ammo will damage and dirty your barrel faster. Brass ammo can be found in bulk in the 30 cents per round range (like over 200 rounds), but Walmart sells a value pack of 100 rounds at retail of .223 brass ammo for like 36-37 cents a round. Other retailers like Dicks and stores like that, best you can do is nearly 50 cents a round, I've seen.

Your rifle has a 1:9 barrel twist, which affects the weight (or grain) of round you should be firing. You need 55 grain for that twist rate. You'll see other "grains" such as 62 grain, but that is optimal for different twist rates like 1:8 or 1:7 or something. There's a chart out there that tells you what you can fire. You should just get 55 grain.

Yeah, so the free floating handguard I got was Guntec USA. Another similarly priced make is probably Leapers UTG Super Slim Free Float handguard.

They probably also come with different attachment type specifications.... either M-lok or Keymod.

I'd go M-lok.

The low profile gas block, if you're gonna have them install that, doesn't matter, just whatever they have in stock at your local gunsmith.

Nice, not familiar with their full builds but Spikes does have some really cool custom lowers
