Its a compressed 1080i.

Same with Directv...look at their "BluRay/1080P" movies, then compare it to a real BluRay DVD...no comparison. The 1080P is so damn compressed that is loses some of it definition.
You know where you really tell the difference?

Sound.....but only if you have a fancy pants surround sound. :art

I have a Samsung LED LCD 46 inch hooked up to my PS3 with an HDMI cable, it apparently outputs at 1080p, but, uh, yeah, it doesn't look like that. How'd you get those screen captures?

Very nice. Are those below 10K yet? How often do you have to replace the bulb? The reason I ask is in our new house I have an 800 sq ft bonus room upstairs I get to do what I want with. It only has one source of natural light that's easily remedied and I am trying to decide between a moderately good projector or a big (80 inch or so ) LED.

I got mine for around 9K.

The screen was another 3500K.

I have not had to replace the bulb yet...supposedly the lamp life is around 3000 hours.

Thank gawd I already had the surround sound.

If I love how my surround system sounds, I can only imagine how good yours is.

Really really loving these Sonance speakers and the Def Tech sub is great.

I painted my walls black, and there are no windows in my HT room. Movies are great...sports, eh not so much. I mean its still an experience, but not like HD movies. It sounds cool to watch sports in the dark, but in reality it takes away from eating, drinking etc during the game. On "high" mode the lamp puts out enough light that I can have my side lights on about 20% and not effect the picture. But that cuts lamp life down to approx. 1000 hours which isn't all that much considering the lamps decay as they age. So the brightness really starts to be noticeable around 250 hours on "high".

Enough of that. If you can swing it..get the projector. I had an Epson 5020 before the JVC...it was awesome for the street price of 2900 bucks.

That's exactly what a buddy of mine did.

He's got money to burn too, and I've posted pics in the past of his game room with the 6 flat screens in it.

Anyhow, his HT room has the walls painted black and he has a 120 inch screen with a high end projector, but I don't know exactly which one it is.

Wow, I suddenly wish I was a cop. I feel underpaid with my 2000 a month take home.

Unc, a man of your ilk will appreciate this. These are a few pics of my buddy's game room where we drink beer and follow our fantasy football teams all Sunday long:

I agree jailers are underpaid, but understand something, I'm a 23 year vet at Lts pay and I get paid very handsomely for doing my job, and I'll never claim to be underpaid regardless the risks people think we take. But also, I built (myself) a 40x60 steel frame building on our property and framed out 1500 sq ft in it in 2000. That's what I live in while we saved to build the brick and mortar house this year. I'm not complaining mind you because I did a pretty darn good job of making the metal building a home. So in 10 years we saved a lot to make this house happen. With the home theater thing, I'm having to save for that as well, but I'm doing my advance scouting to help me decide. There's no way I'll be able to buy a 10K projector, but it's still nice to know about them.

Everyone starts somewhere. I certainly didn't own anything in my early years...not even a house. Props to you for getting out there and busting your ass and getting the American dream. Home ownership is awesome.

I was fortunate enough to have a lot of things go really great for me in my early 40's, and with hard work and luck I have a lot of things I never dreamed I'd have.

Time in grade can definitely help your pay scale. I didn't realize you were that much older than me.

If my plans work out I should be running a liquor store by next year as part owner. The state nearly took away our retirement in the last legislative session. I'm not going to stay at the prison playing Russian Roulette every two years if our benefits are going to be under constant assault.

I look at things now and I'm amazed at what I have. It took my wife and I 8 plus years to find a floor plan we both like and could work with and now that it's built I'm in awe of how amazing it turned out. I never would have dreamed I'd have something as nice as we do now 10 years ago. I and my family have been truly blessed but it came from hard work and frugality.

Good luck with that dream bro. The city is currently jacking with our retirement in ways I think are illegal, but as much as I hate saying it, it won't affect me too much. I can go in 3 but will likely stay 5 after that in our DROP option. ANd I turned 50 last week but my 10 year old daughter says I'm not old until I'm 90 so I'm good.
