Is this country just fucked going forward?

Serious question. With the incredible (to me) increasing love of socialism/communism among young people, is this country in real trouble? I don't consume political commentary on any kind of regular basis -- no Fox News, no political forums (except here), very little radio. So I'm not getting this from Limbaugh or Hannity or anyone else, just my own observations online. IMO if this belief among young people is real and genuine, we're screwed and this country will face major problems soon.

But, maybe this trend seems exaggerated by the skewed number of young people who comment online and maybe even by foreign actors purposely influencing and sowing discord. (Something that I think could be real, no more than I know about it.) And maybe the more, er, experienced people (like many of us on here who know better) just don't bother fighting as much on the twitters, but are still there to vote.

What do you think?

I think so. With the swell of young people rallying to the whole AOC/Bernie stupidity, along with the acceptance and indoctrination of more students every year in our universities, this is a very real danger.

We can only hope that as these young people grow older and actually have to live what they are preaching now, they'll wise up. But even so, there will be more stupid young voters churned out by the machine. And they'll continue to attempt to expand that voter swell. See: Dropping voting age to 16.

Why would they think two losers (Beto, Abrams) would make good national candidates?

Considering we have mainstream Dem Presidential nominees calling for

-Abolish the Electoral College
-Expand SCOTUS
-Let 16 year olds vote
-Massive wealth redistribution through Green New Deal
-Reparations
-Infanticide
-Universal basic income
-Strict gun control
-Unfettered illegal immigration

I'd say we're fucked

I don't think so. As young people experience a much stronger economy and the fun of actually earning a wage their opinions will change. When you're coming out of college with shitty job prospects it's easy to lean towards socialism as a solution. But as soon as you actually start working and realizing that you can succeed or fail based on working hard and you start seeing that chunk of money taken out of your earnings for someone who isn't working, opinions change. When you're paying 5 figures in taxes annually suddenly the prospects of sharing what you've worked hard for doesn't seem like such a good idea. When you're not paying taxes it sounds like a great idea.

Just my opinion on it.

Yes I think so and I said this country was moving in an adverse direction 3 or 4 years ago. I was Pooh Paahed at that time and labeled an Obama hater by some. Who would have thought even two years ago that more than half of Congress would be doing a complete change of direction about things like border security and are now touting socialism as the mode of economic structure. The youth ideaology is pretty obvious as to their morals and self responsibilities. A large part is the hatred of not being able to have the President of their choice. Even Congressmen joined the DOJ and FBI in a contrived scheme to overthrow a legitimate election outcome. I could go on but that’s the bleak picture of how extreme things have gotten in a very short time.

Nah, this generation (a lot of it anyway) will outgrow these idiotic ideas just like most of the hippies from the 70s did. We just can NOT let the idea of moving the voting age to 16 pass.

I've wondered if it's not this simple, if people 40-50-60 haven't been saying the same thing, well, forever. And they probably did in the 60s.

But when I was that age, my friends and I never embraced socialism; we embraced the idea that you have the freedom to make your own decisions and become successful if you do the right things. There was never, ever the thought that a kid in Cuba was better off because everyone was equally destitute there. Yet that's what many seem to think now. LIke Nodak said, I think it's the indoctrination from our schools and media now, plus these ideas spreading like wildfire through social media.

I'm actually a little discouraged that so many of you agreed that we're screwed. I thought maybe I was overreacting. Maybe like after the 60s, we'll recover somehow and not go over that edge.

I still don't think this belief is the normal ideology of this generation. I have a ton of my son's friends that come over and hang out and we have talked a bit about politics and from what I gather from them there are very few kids in their school of about 700 that buy into this socialistic idiocy, so maybe the young socialist crowd is just much louder than the opposite, so it appears they are the majority.

That's what I hope. But you're in West Texas, probably one of the most conservative areas of the entire country. What about the more heavily populated areas that are already a lot more blue?

Here's another question: The socialists seem to have a much more organized campaign on their side. What can the other side do to combat this brainwashing?

That's why it's imperative that we protect the Electoral College at all costs.

I'm not sure this is true. Not since Trump was nominated by the GOP have I thought this. I did before, but right now the GOP is being shaken up, and I believe will be more cohesive once the dust settles.

I hear you on that. I guess I meant the bigger picture of influencing the young people.

The really disturbing factor for me is the individuals in Congress and the upheaval that is occurring. The once rationale loyal opposition was at least unified on certain fronts like national security and enemies of the nation. This has completely disappeared and now the unloyal opposition is willing to agree to anything in order to destroy the across the isle handshake. Dangerous ideologies are boldly coming to the front and being supported for the sake of defeating the other party at every turn. There is no longer any common ground and irrational concepts are being touted by virtually every candidate who would enter a race to garner a congressional public office. Even religious zealots of the Terrorist campaigns are now bragging that they will take this country down by filling the congressional offices with individuals who will take over the country. These aren’t make believe stories they are real and gaining momentum while the parties in power are willing to turn their backs on the well being of this country for the sake of a political victory.

If your worry is about the Democrats winning the next election, I wouldn't worry.

If anyone who isn't Booker or Harris is the nominee, the race ideologues will be upset. If a man wins, the feminists will be upset. If Beto doesn't win, the white middle-aged women who don't know anything about politics but think he's hot will be upset.

Dividing everyone along various identity lines doesn't strike me as a recipe for success.

Also, I posted an article around the last election that demonstrates that the common left-wing notion that more non-white people and young people equals a solidly Democrat nation simply isn't supported by any data.

I'd be more worried about the spiritual and social decay that comes with ideologues (on both sides, IMO) becoming more deeply entrenched.

While I agree that the youth will grow up and become more stable minded, they are so far gone that a swing back will still make them a hair above stupid. I know that kids are smart these days but the total lack of understanding of simple concepts is concerning.

So yeah, we are f-ed.

2 years ago most of my sons friends who came over or visited with us on Spring Break all ran their mouths about free college, free shit...free everything. Funny thing, most of them weren't registered to vote and some that were registered never even voted. They were typical students. Most of the bullshit you hear comes from college dorks who have no clue about what its like out from mommys skirt and daddys pocketbook.

Fast forward to just this past Spring Break...5 of the 8 that visited 2 years ago now have jobs and are determined to vote for someone "who doesn't wanna give all my hard earned money away" and complain how unfair it would be for them "to have to pay for someones free college" since THEY are no longer in school anymore :laff

If I had to guess, theres many, many more 20- somethings out there that have had a change of heart since getting out of college.

It’s not the youth I have real concerns about. It’s the current governing body via Congress and the trends they are moving toward. Yhey May compromise our nation to the point to where even the youth will not be able to curtail the deterioration.

Yep this is pretty much how I view it. Indoctrination or not I think once most people start working and earning a wage their opinions change. No one wants to break their back so that someone else can live the easy life. The only way this country really gets screwed is if you get too many people on the welfare system. Once the tides turn and the people receiving free shit start to out number those that aren't, well the outcome seems pretty obvious.
