He was night and day immediately for the Rangers, we went to the Cup his first year and back to the Conference finals his second year. They needed either one more scorer or for aging superstars Rick Nash and Martin St. Louis to step up just one more time, and they couldn't. They needed about 3-4 timely goals in that Finals against the Kings and it turns from a 5 game series loss to a 5 game series win for them. They lost 3 games in OT in that 4-1 series loss, including two in double overtime.

After that they got bounced early in the playoffs a few years, but they were already transitioning. Stepan got traded, Zibanejad hadn't really blossomed yet. Nash and MSL gone, no real scoring wingers to replace them. It was time to tear it down and AV did not show that he knew how to guide a team that was rebuilding to either get the most out of them while they rebuilt or that he had the correct teaching temperament to guide super young players.

But for a team of established young talent like the Flyers he's probably perfect, like he was for the Rangers in 2014.

I forgot what a good team that Rangers team was. I used to love Nash in particular. I forgot they got him.

You are gonna remember again in a few years cause the Rangers are building a powerhouse.

Shesterkin is gonna be great and he's 24. They have a stacked D corps of young kids and prospects - especially on the right side.

Trouba (26)
DeAngelo (25) (had 50+ points this year)
Fox (22) (42 points and a Calder snub this year)
Nils Lundkvist is another top-pair D prospect still in Sweden, under 20 years old

On the left...

K'Andre Miller (20), first round pick in 2018
Ryan Lindgren (22), snarl and glue guy
Matthew Robertson (19) steal in the second round last year, in the minors
Zac Jones, Tarmo Reunanon, Libor Hajek, Ygor Rykov, all potential middle pair or bottom pair guys.

At forward, they have Panarin and Zibanejad long term, Kreider just re-signed a team friendly deal, and they have Kakko and Chytil marinating with the big club and Kravtsov on the way. Plus two firsts this year and even if they don't win the lottery they are picking 10th or 11th with one of them.

They are gonna be scary for you in 2-3 years. Better win now!

Flyers haven't won in 40 something years. Definitely time to win now. I doubt they have enough talent but you never know, especially in hockey when you could potentially ride a hot goalie.

The Rangers do have a good deal of young talent. I'd hate to see them get that top pick, though better them than Pittsburgh.

Flyers lose game two. Montreal wiped the ice with them.

Sad Gritty.

These playoffs are simply not real, the layoffs and no fans make everything crazy. A team like Montreal would have no chance normally.

This Stars game has been crazy. Stars tied the game with 12 seconds in regulation. In OT now.

There's just nothing like NHL playoffs overtime. I usually like to see the stars win so I'm happy.
It's the first time since all of this covid bullshit started that I was able to jump around yelling at the TV. God damn, it was a good feeling.

Stars take a 3-2 lead after being down 2-1. We might just advance. They have been playing their asses off.

Isn't hockey great?

Come on, it needs to be elevated a little in the pantheon of American sports.
After watching game 3 where they went down 2-1, I had almost lost hope, because they outplayed the Flames and still lost. But, then, they came out in game 4 and straight up outskated and outplayed them, and did the same again last night. I don't know what lit the fire, but they are playing their asses off right now.
