I won’t trash the Wells hire as he’s done some good things with USU, but he’s not on the same level as the initially reported candidates and it seems they lowered down to his level awfully quick.

Having said that, I’d take him all day over Mack Brown or a Ken Whisenhunt.

You're actually wrong, he was on the initial list of 4 candidates from day one. I posted that information in this thread very early in this process.

I don't understand why he was on the list but he definitely was. For whatever reason he was in the top tier for Tech.

Its a little bit more complicated than that. Still, I'm confused as hell.

I have yet to hear the reason that Kirby decided to go this direction. Something set him off to the point that he was willing to go all in on this guy. And nobody else knows shit about him.
