I had a Butterball electric deep fryer I used with peanut oil. Made the best damn turkey I ever had and a lot of people said the same.

I know some turkey frying snobs will claim the electric ones are cheating but I have had better results and nothing beats dropping it, doing something else for a hour and then not having to worry about your deck burning down.
