From the my 2 cents dept: As someone who has defended Dak, after watching him in the Eagles game I don't think he's a promised-land QB. They won because of Zeke and Cooper on offense, plus a stellar defense.

Dak makes a good throw, then a horrible throw. He makes clutch plays, then puts the ball on the ground. The two TDs to Cooper were about 60% luck -- neither one was a particularly good throw.

No way Dumb and Dumber should lock him up with a lucrative contract.
I don't get this one? Those were beautiful passes into very tight windows. Everyone bitches that Dak can't hit a guy unless he is wide open but neither of those plays were wide open. They were perfect passes and Cooper managed to separate at the late second and come up with huge plays.

Not that I disagree with the rest of your post. Just that part is a head scratcher to me.

Accuracy. Romo didn't miss his targets as badly as Dak has. It's a huge deal. Especially the easy ones.
Romo missed plenty of throws and probably had just as many if not more boneheaded picks. People have revisionist memories when it comes to Romo.

The missed throw to a wide open Gallup was the second in two weeks. Those are the kind of throws that first-rate NFL QBs make, the kind of throws that put games away.

And they are throws that first rate QBs miss too. Mahomes has arguably been the best QB in the NFL this year. Watch a game and you will see misses like that. Everyone loves to highlight the misses. Which are totally on Dak but at the same time you have to understand that QBs over throw receivers on deep passes sometimes. I would like to see him get better at it but it's something that is always going to happen to QBs. Most miss one or two of those every game. But they also are able to hit on some. Like Dak did against the Eagles.

Likely his best throw of the night.
Yeah it's such a tight window with the back of the endzone you really have to not only hit the receiver but also leave him enough room to get his feet in bounds. Everything about this one is spot on. Pretty impressive since the corner was playing off coverage and there wasn't a lot of space for Amari to get the separation.

Romo wasn't a fumble machine and wouldn't have missed Gallup time and again.

Third in 3 weeks, actually.

Missed it on Thanksgiving vs the Redskins too.

Tony Romo also has fumbled 8 times in a season before. So no, not really true either. Granted Dak has 3 more games left to best that. But Romo actually was a fumble machine at one point. Romo also missed his fair share of deep throws. But it's amazing how time can erase those moments from our memory. Google Tony Romo bad plays and watch the videos if you need a recollection of some of his boneheaded plays. There are lots.

And no Dak isn't a better deep ball passer than Romo. But Dak isn't egregious either. He's pretty much average right now.

People can argue until they're blue in the face whether or not Dak is a good deep passer. But three straight games with deep misses to Gallup who was WIDE OPEN EACH TIME is pretty damning evidence. Made even worse since all three of them would have pretty much salted each game away.

There were actually people on Twitter today defending his deep ball percentage and noting that his percentage is the EXACT same percentage as the NFL average.

Oh, okay, great.

This Viking/Seahawk game has some intrigue due to the fact one of these two might be opponents if we make the playoffs.

And Seattle has those fucking neon uniforms on. pdom

It is, but the ones he nailed to Cooper are the flip side of it. He has nailed a couple deep throws to Gallup in tighter coverage then the ones he has missed. Maybe he just needs him less open. It's weird like that.

He makes and misses deep throws like the ones you described at an acceptable rate, sure. But when he shits himself inside out trying to hit a wide open receiver is what's unacceptable. Those don't happen often. Even less, when it could seal a game. But somehow, Gallup has managed to do it three straight games now, and we have yet to cash in on them. When the receiver is that open, those should be completed 99% of the time if not more. Dak get's too excited and tries to sling the ball in there. Put some air under it and let the receiver run under it. Should be one of the easiest passes for him to complete. In fact, the tough part should be the actual catch, not the throw.

Prescott hits Cooper more because he is a special talent that can adjust to his errant throws.

Even Gallup has stated he has to adjust out of his transitions to, uh, deal with the handicap.
