Hamstring to keep DeMarco Murray out again
May, 28, 2013

By Todd Archer | ESPNDallas.com

IRVING, Texas – When the Cowboys begin their second week of organized activities Tuesday running back DeMarco Murray will continue his rehab work on a hamstring injury.

Murray did not practice last week because of the injury, which has been called minor, but coach Jason Garrett said the hope is Murray could return to the field sometime this week.

Linebacker Justin Durant (hamstring) and defensive end Sean Lissemore (groin) are expected to do some in-practice work after sitting out last week. Safety Jakar Hamilton (hamstring) is also expected to continue his rehab. Wide receiver Danny Coale took part in individual drills as he rehabs from a torn anterior cruciate ligament suffered late last season but did not take part in 11-on-11 work.

Or are they just trying to keep him from needlessly running around in frigging OTAs and needed a reason. Hell, I'd sit his ass till the season started. I don't think he would forget how to be awesome if he didn't risk injury with too much practice.

Murray is a good player but "awesome" is a bit of a stretch.

He does help us win though, so let's hope that either he stays healthy or Randle can approximate Murray's production.

I remember those morans at the Zone would argue that Murray got injured a lot but wasn't 'injury-prone'.

IRVING, Texas – It doesn’t sound like DeMarco Murray will stay off the practice field much longer.

The starting running back said he should get some work in with the team during Wednesday’s practice after sitting out of Organized Team Activities thus far with a tweaked hamstring.

“I’m feeling good,” Murray said. “I did a lot more than I usually have done in the past week, but feeling great. Tomorrow I’m going to get out there with the team a little bit, do some stuff tomorrow, just taking it slow, not trying to push it. We don’t have a game this weekend, so trying to make sure I’m smart and let this thing heal up.”

Murray’s been training with resistance cords on the sidelines throughout the team’s OTA practices. He said it’s more important that he gets completely healthy than risk hurting himself worse, and he’s not concerned about the injury holding him back long.

He didn’t say how much work he plans on getting in with the team tomorrow.

“I’m not concerned at all,” Murray said. “I wouldn’t say I’m injury prone at all. It just happened. This isn’t something I’m worried about. I’m just trying to be smart about it.”

Murray’s been tremendously productive when he can stay on the field, but his brawling style has also led to him missing significant time. Murray played in 13 games his rookie season and just 10 last year while nursing a foot injury.

He hears people throw out the injury prone label, but he said it doesn’t bother him.

“That’s something I can’t control,” Murray said. “I can’t control if anything happens. All I can do is go out there, play hard, play fast, play physical. Once I’m out there, I don’t think there’s any question about anything.”

He’s more worried about what it would mean if he pushed himself too hard at this point in the season. Murray said he’s had a tendency in the past to overwork himself and take a step or two back in his progress while rehabbing from an injury.

He doesn’t want to make the same mistake again, because he doesn’t plan on missing any games this season.

“I am going to play all 16 (games) this year, and I’m excited,” Murray said. “It’s going to be a great year for us.”

That read like one of those brain-teasers where you count how many times a specific word is used. 'hamstring'

Don't count on that.
It's a lot to expect of any 5th round pick to step in and replace starter production. Alfred Morris' production in Washington last year was unusual, even for a Mike Shanahan offense.

I just meant a runner is a runner, and as long as he knows the offense well and is in good shape, there is no need to risk the health of such an important player in OTA.

He is not going to forget how to run if they don't run run his tail off in practice.
