Saints bring in Cowboys' DE/OLB Anthony Spencer for visit
March, 24, 2015

By Mike Triplett | ESPN.com

The New Orleans Saints are hosting free agent defensive end/outside linebacker Anthony Spencer for a visit Tuesday, a league source confirmed.

The longtime Dallas Cowboys standout is 31-years-old and was limited by a knee injury over the past two years. But Spencer had the best season of his career under current Saints defensive coordinator Rob Ryan in 2012. So a reunion could make a lot of sense.

Spencer (6-foot-3, 265 pounds) was a Pro Bowler in 2012 when he had a career-high 11 sacks. He has a total of 33 sacks in his eight-year career while playing both end in 4-3 fronts and outside linebacker in 3-4 fronts.

However, Spencer played only one game in 2013 because of a knee injury that required microfracture surgery, and he gradually worked his way back last year. Spencer had only one half-sack in 13 games played last season, though he came on stronger as he got healthier late in the year.

Spencer could add depth in one of the Saints’ biggest need areas as a pass rusher and a versatile edge player in Ryan's defense, which mixes and matches between 4-3 and 3-4 fronts. Spencer could also bring veteran leadership to the locker room. And perhaps the Saints could land him at a discounted rate, which is key since they’re slammed tight against the salary cap.

Spencer also reportedly met with the Seattle Seahawks earlier this month.

This is old news, but I kinda hope they sign him. I don't want us be in any way content on the DL going into the draft.

Please send him away. He's ripped off more than enough money.
