Tony Romo is throwing and progressing

IRVING, Texas -- Cowboys quarterback Tony Romo threw for 45 minutes on Tuesday in the second phase of the Cowboys' voluntary offseason program at Valley Ranch. Romo is recovering from back surgery and is on target to start training camp on time in late July.
"He's done an excellent job with his rehab," coach Jason Garrett said. "The procedure went well, he's making progress every day. He's built up from not being able to do much to walking around doing cardio and getting out on the field."
Romo isn't the only injured player recovering.
Defensive tackle Henry Melton is recovering from a torn ACL, suffered in the third game of the season while playing for the Chicago Bears. Garrett said Melton is on target to return for training camp and is progressing in his rehab.
"Really good job," Garrett said of Melton. "Spent a lot of time here on the field today, not 100 percent but doing a lot of good things moving around involved in some of the drills."
Running back Lance Dunbar, who injured his knee in the Thanksgiving Day game against the Oakland Raiders, is also working out on the field while wearing a knee brace.
Garrett said Dunbar is making strides in his rehab as is defensive lineman Tyrone Crawford, who tore his Achilles tendon in a non-contact drill during the first training camp practice last July.
Of course, the biggest concern to the Cowboys' is Romo's recovery from his second back surgery in less than a year.
"He was on the field for 45 minutes with the other guys, threw the ball, dropped back," Garrett said. "Like with any injured player, we're going to take the process slowly and cross those bridges we need to cross before we go further. But he's certainly on target. He's responded well to this and is making a lot of progress."
