Cap space leaves Redskins with little wiggle room to even sign draft picks
April 23, 2013 10:11 am ET

Most teams have completed their big spending in free agency, and draft picks are a bargain in this new CBA, but it's always interesting to take a snapshot of available cap space. Included here are the updated numbers from the NFL Management Council for all teams as of Tuesday.

Several teams are still seeking to sign their own players to massive extensions -- Green Bay with Aaron Rodgers; Atlanta with Matt Ryan -- so having cash on hand and cap available is never a bad thing.

The Redskins remain in pretty bad shape, thanks in large part to the controversial cap penalties they were assessed, though they could create plenty of wiggle room by releasing corner Josh Wilson, for instance, and the reality is they will have to make room just to be able to sign their draft picks.

Washington entered the week with just under $30,000 in cap space. The 49ers ($826,000) and Steelers ($1.087M) are also short on supply right now, while teams like the Browns, Bengals and Jags have more room than they could ever really spend.
