Rookie report: B.W. Webb

November, 13, 2013

By Todd Archer | ESPNDallas.com

With the Cowboys off this week, we take a look at how the team's draft picks have fared.

B.W. Webb
Pick: Fourth round (No. 114 overall)

What he’s done: He has played in every game but has seen his snaps increase in the past three games with Morris Claiborne out with a hamstring injury. He has been credited with 11 tackles and one pass breakup. He has also had two special-teams tackles.

Season outlook: With Claiborne expected to return Nov. 24 against the New York Giants, Webb’s role on the defense would go back to emergency fill-in, but he was benched in Sunday’s loss to the New Orleans Saints. The Cowboys moved Orlando Scandrick into the slot and had Micah Pellerin play outside with Webb struggling.

The Cowboys have used Webb only as a slot cornerback. He has lacked awareness and has been a step slow as he makes the jump from William & Mary to the NFL. He has the athletic skills but he has to understand the game and concepts better if he is going to make an impact.

On special teams he has been only OK as a gunner on the punt team. He has been jammed way too easily and not been able to force the returner to make a decision.
