Is being 2-1 a big deal?

The Cowboys are 2-1 and in first place in the NFC East.

Is this a big deal?

There are two division teams, Washington and the New York Giants, who have yet to win a game this season and there's the Philadelphia Eagles at 1-2.

"You really have to look at each game and look at what we've got against San Diego [this Sunday]," owner/general manager Jerry Jones said Tuesday on KRLD-FM. "There goes a team probably mentally [is] ready to bite nails. They could be 3-0 as easily as they're 1-2. We got to play them out there [and] it's the type of setting you had with Kansas City. You're at [the opponents'] home field being there at San Diego and we got a real problem, a real challenge ahead of us. On the other hand, it's good to be 2-1. We know it doesn't come easy and we want our team to build on that."

Jones also said he liked how the team arrived at this mark. The Cowboys beat the Giants for the first time in four games in Arlington, in the season opener, but a disappointing loss in Week 2 at Kansas City raised questions about the direction of the team.

It sparked a midweek speech from defensive tackle Jason Hatcher and now the Cowboys moved to 2-1 with a convincing victory over the St. Louis Rams in Week 3.

But with the Cowboys being in first place, coach Jason Garrett said you have to ignore it because, quite frankly, there are 13 games remaining with five division games in the middle of that.

"You simply block it out," Garrett said. "You focus on us, it's as simple as that. We have enough issues on our football team to make sure we clean up. It's always about us. You prepared each week for an opponent and want to make sure you know that opponent inside and out, but most of the time, it's stuff we emphasize -- us getting better and do what we do at a higher level."

It is not a big deal in the long run.

In fact, it is laughable that anyone is talking about winning the division right now.

Yeah, Washington is struggling. The Giants are struggling. When they are 0-6, then you can feel good about winning one more game than you have lost.

That's exactly right. If we get beat by the Chargers we are suddenly 2-2 facing a brutal Denver team and a likely sub .500 record. We actually really need this win against the Chargers.
