Dan Pompei's mock NFL draft: Take II

By Dan Pompei, Chicago Tribune reporter

With the NFL draft less than two weeks away, much remains that we don't know about how the players will fall. But we know more than we did a week ago, so here is our updated mock draft.

1. Chiefs: Luke Joeckel, OT, Texas A&M. Those who have been close to the team believe the Chiefs are zeroed in on Joeckel.

2. Jaguars: Dion Jordan, DE, Oregon. They have made a lot of noise about quarterbacks. Too much noise, perhaps?

3. Raiders: Sharrif Floyd, DT, Florida. He is a good value at this point, and he fills one of their most pressing needs.

4. Eagles: Geno Smith, QB, West Virginia. He is creeping up the board. If the Eagles pass, the Browns and Bills are threats to take him.

5. Lions: Eric Fisher, OT, Central Michigan. This is the perfect pick for the Lions: They find a replacement for Jeff Backus in their backyard.

6. Browns: Dee Milliner, CB, Alabama. In this scenario, they also could be a threat to take a guard: Chance Warmack or Jonathan Cooper.

7. Cardinals: Lane Johnson, OT, Oklahoma. The word is Johnson won't get past the seventh pick. That could mean a team will try to leapfrog the Cards.

8. Bills: Chance Warmack, G, Alabama. After losing Andy Levitre, the Bills need a player who can serve as the foundation for their offensive line.

9. Jets: Barkevious Mingo, DE/OLB, LSU. Ziggy Ansah might be rated higher by many teams, but Mingo is a better fit for Rex Ryan's defense.

10. Titans: Ziggy Ansah, DE, BYU. Defensive end is not their most pressing need, but Ansah would be too good to pass up.

11. Chargers: Jonathan Cooper, G, North Carolina. What they really need is an offensive tackle, but none of the top three will last this long.

12. Dolphins: Xavier Rhodes, CB, Florida State. They could use a left tackle too, but they aren't going to get one here. One of the guards also could be appealing.

13. Buccaneers: Star Lotulelei, DT, Utah. They could trade this pick for a veteran cornerback or draft Rhodes if he is available. But Lotulelei could be hard to pass.

14. Panthers: Sheldon Richardson, DT, Missouri. Other possibilities are cornerback and wide receiver. But Richardson would be a great fit.

15. Saints: Alec Ogletree, ILB, Georgia. He has the talent to justify being picked here. The Saints also could be tempted by a defensive end or safety Kenny Vaccaro.

16. Rams: Tavon Austin, WR, West Virginia. The word is the Rams love this guy. Cordarrelle Patterson and Vaccaro also are possibilities.

17. Steelers: Jarvis Jones, OLB, Georgia. The Steelers aren't worried about 40 times. They also might go for Patterson, who could replace Mike Wallace.

18. Cowboys: Kenny Vaccaro, S, Texas. A new lineman for Monte Kiffin's four-man front also could be appealing.

19. Giants: D.J. Fluker, OT, Alabama. General manager Jerry Reese likes big men. This is a big man. The Giants also are a potential landing spot for Ogletree.

20. Bears: Tyler Eifert, TE, Notre Dame. If Ogletree is gone, they could go for Eifert's college teammate Manti Te'o. Tight end isn't a need, but Eifert would make the offense better.

21. Bengals: Desmond Trufant, CB, Washington. They could use a running back and offensive tackle, but there might not be players worth taking at those positions in this spot.

22. Rams: Matt Elam, S, Florida. With two first-round picks, they could end up with Vaccaro, the consensus No. 1 safety.

23. Vikings: Cordarrelle Patterson, WR, Tennessee. They also could go for Ogletree or Te'o if either slips, or a defensive tackle.

24. Colts: Bjoern Werner, DE, Florida State. They need to replace Dwight Freeney and have a number of pass rushers to choose from in this vicinity.

25. Vikings: Manti Te'o, ILB, Notre Dame. They were happy with Notre Dame safety Harrison Smith in the first round last year, so they could go back to the same well.

26. Packers: Margus Hunt, DE, SMU. They can be unpredictable on draft day. Hunt is the kind of player Ted Thompson likes.

27. Texans: DeAndre Hopkins, WR, Clemson. Could they reach for an offensive tackle? They also could use a defensive lineman.

28. Broncos: Datone Jones, DE, UCLA. A cornerback or linebacker would make sense too, but the Broncos really need a young replacement for Elvis Dumervil.

29. Patriots: Johnathan Hankins, DT, Ohio State. He is a little like a young Vince Wilfork, so he would fit in well in this defense.

30. Falcons: Tank Carradine, DE, Florida State. A cornerback also would fit here, as would a linebacker, offensive tackle or tight end.

31. 49ers: John Jenkins, DT, Georgia. A receiver also would make sense here, and the 49ers could have their pick of Justin Hunter, Keenan Allen or Robert Woods.

32. Ravens: Keenan Allen, WR, California. He has drawn comparisons to Anquan Boldin, the receiver the Ravens had to part with because of contract problems.

So, we would pass on Werner to take Vaccaro? I can see it.

Horrible way for it to play out for us. Top 5 O linemen off the board by pick 11? I think that's unlikely.
